In Liguria, like almost everywhere in the south, there are of course also mosquitoes in summer. In Imperia and the surrounding area, the mosquitoes appear with varying intensity from summer to summer - but fortunately almost not in many years. A lot depends on whether it was damp and warm in the spring and whether they were able to reproduce well. The typical Ligurian mosquito species are 2-3 mm long, almost transparent small mosquitoes. They are hardly ever out and about in wind or drafts, and not normally at temperatures below 20 degrees. They are more active at night and start their silent flights at dusk. Some people react violently to their stings and then have red puncture points on their skin, often many next to each other or in a larger area, others only notice the stings for a few minutes.

Please note the following preventive recommendations so that your holiday is not spoiled by mosquitoes.

Measures:

1) No light when windows/doors are open

The mosquitoes are attracted to light. Therefore, please avoid opening windows and doors when there is light in the respective room. Please remember to wait a little longer before opening even after the light has been switched off, as the little animals, attracted by the light, will sit on the panes and will fly in if you open them quickly.

Please also consider that the pool lighting and whirlpool lighting unfolds a great light - but unfortunately this also attracts the little flying animals.

2) Indoor anti-mosquito spray

In the apartments we have special and effective anti-mosquito sprays. The nebulizers are significantly more efficient than mosquito nets on the windows/doors as their meshes are too large for the mosquitoes and would therefore be ineffective.

The anti-mosquito vaporizers are plugged into the sockets in each room and programmed with a timer. They turn on at 6:00 p.m. and turn off again at 8:00 a.m. They can also be turned on manually using the button on the side if they are to be activated earlier in the day.

Small blue plates are inserted into the atomizers, which secrete the corresponding scents, which in turn keep the mosquitoes away. The blue tiles last for one night, you can get replacements in the supermarkets EuroSpin and Conad. Please note that the atomizers only have an effect if the blue tiles are inserted daily.

3) Outdoor spirals

If you stay longer in one place in the evening in the garden or on the terrace, we recommend citrus candles or glowing spirals outdoors. Please use a fireproof underlay, especially for the latter, otherwise burn marks may appear on the floor. We also have round stainless steel washers in-house for this, they are under the sink.

4) Classic insect protection

We recommend insect sprays with the active ingredients diethyltoluamide (DEET) and Icaridin, which are applied to the skin and can provide effective protection against potential mosquito bites.
