Imperia - the pearl on the Riviera

The Riviera di Ponente is a 160km stretch of coastline in the western part of Liguria, stretching between the port city of Genoa and the French border. It borders France to the west, Tuscany to the east and the Ligurian Sea to the south.

On the Italian Riviera of Flowers (Riviera di Ponente) in northwestern Italy lies a beautiful stretch of land between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, the province of Imperia. The province of Imperia attracts visitors with its bright colors and Mediterranean ambience, as well as with sandy and pebbly beaches, romantic bathing bays and lively holiday resorts. The area is considered a wonderful holiday paradise for bathing, active and cultural holidays and is extremely popular with both Italians (especially from the nearby areas around Turin and Milan) and international tourists (especially Germans and Swiss). The charm of the landscape, which can be counted among the most beautiful in Italy, is mainly characterized by the direct juxtaposition of coast and green mountains.

In addition to the provincial capital of the same name, Imperia, there are well-known seaside resorts and port cities such as San Remo, Bordighera, Alassio and Diano Marina on this famous stretch of coast.
The picturesque towns of the province of Imperia are located on the narrow stretch of coast south of the Apennines and the southernmost foothills of the Alps. This geological feature contributes to the year-round mild, Mediterranean climate on this stretch of the Ligurian coast. As early as the 19th century, the rich English sought refuge from the English rain on the Riviera and the Russian tsars wintered here. We have them to thank for the magnificent historic buildings and villas.

Imperia is known primarily for its olives, but also for the cultivation of white wine.
Liguria offers the rare combination of impressive mountain hikes up to 2000 meters high and a carefree bathing holiday on the warm Mediterranean Sea.

Foodies will appreciate the fresh seafood or local delicacies such as wild boar or rabbit - or simply a delicious pasta or pizza at one of the countless great waterfront restaurants.
